Women of Steel

A WOMAN’S PLACE IS IN HER UNION

The Women's Committee of USW Local 1998 is also known as Women of Steel. Our monthly meetings are open to everyone who has an interest in issues of concern to women. It could be strategies on dealing with harassment, Daycare, Eldercare, the pay equity aspects of the Job Evaluation system, coping with technological change, health issues and solidarity with women around the world and close to home.

Women's committees help to build solidarity and mutual respect amongst our membership. Building solidarity and a stronger union - that's what Steelworker women's committees are all about.

The meetings are generally held over the lunch hour.  Sometimes we meet to hear a speaker, sometimes we meet to plan what issues and actions are important to women in the local.

Everyone is welcome! Get in touch with the Co-Chairs to find out about upcoming meetings, or to suggest a topic or speaker you’d like to see us cover!
